khingz sez

aiit word up i know this will piss people off but i gotta be real here.
There is no such thing as a sports hero!! A hero is someone who saves lives at risk to there own. Or if not at risk could at least have done something else but there sense of duty compels them to serve others above their selves. Black Panthers. heroes. The Filipino KKK. heroes (not the white ones, though they are heroes to some) your teacher, a fire man, that one good cop out there ( whose proly dead anyway) are heroes. Athletes get paid a ludicrous amounts of money  to play a fuccing game. Sure they may inspire some one along the way to not take they're education seriously and pin all there hopes and dreams on a 1 in a billion chance that they'll also be picced to play for some ones team where they can be bought and traded like a got damn slave. but they don't go out of their way to do it.  So no there are no sports heroes. Fucc that!
and thus ends the first addition of khingz sez

i see your point. i agree that most athletes arent heroes, but influences and role models, yes. I believe its all on how you see the athlete. Many have come from nothing, like us, trying to find a better life. Those who have overcome those struggles, and inspire people to keep going and work harder in whatever they do, then i would consider them a hero (example, Manny Pacquiao, Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali, etc.). I definitely respect those who still go to college and play sports. As someone who played sports most of my life, i know how hard it is to balance school and work. But if you got the talent, then you got the talent...i would encourage anyone to take advantage of it, but even then, it takes more than just talent. I dont think a hero literally has to risk his/her life to save others, IMO, but someone who chooses to help themselves and those around them, whether its over-coming struggles to become successful in life, and/or giving back and helping those who still havent succeeded or havent been given a chance to. I do agree that true heroes put people above themselves, but takin it back to what i said about struggling and trying to have a better life...we cant help others if we cant help ourselves. Taking care of yourself is most important of all. How can you serve the people when you're one of the people that needs to be served, ya dig? To most, its more than just a game, its life. It's something that they can be great at. I think a "hero" aspect depends on what you do with that life. Pro athletes, sacrifice their bodies every day they are on the field or court for the game they love, and many do give back to the community. Yea, theres players out there who get paid way too much and are assholes, but there's those who are willing to take pay cuts just to win, not worrying about their health, some have died, and many have ended their careers due to injuries.

Sorry this is hella long, i got back from watching the Pacquiao fight earlier and im still pumped (peep my blog)...haha just puttin my 2 cents in there, cuuhhz.

take your head outta your ass and listen to the truth. there are sports hero's. hero is defined as-person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

nam already mention jackie robinson and pacquiao and ali. let me name nfl runningback warrick dunn, who's mom got murdered when he was in highschool. he went to college and raised his brothers and sisters by himself and for the past decade of his career has used his funds to build houses for single parents in low income comunities. or how about joe louis and his victory over german max schmelling during the war disputed hitlers claims of racial superiority. think of what sports has done for race relations.

look at he bigger picture fam. there are sports heros, but not jordan or kobe or barry bonds

head outta my ass!? you command of the english language continues to astound. Almost as much as your ability to prove my point with your inane (that means stupid) mutterings. every last one of your examples proves my point. None of these men you mentioned are heroes because they play sports they're heroes because of the other things they've done. they're only well known because they play a spot. Muhammed Ali is a hero because he stood against the veitnam war. A position he would have had if he was a postman. jackie Robinson for standing against racism as well the fact he did in baseball isn't as important as the fact he did it. manny is a GMA supporter and that means he is arguably not a hero at all. As for inspiration, well you take inspiration from them that is a choice of your own and not something they inherently have. nam your points are good but most of them i did bring up in my original rant. as for chev your a dicc. Also the idea that you can't help the people when your one of them is erroneous dangerous minds fantasies not withstanding, only those who are of the people can help them. Anyone who saw themselves as different from or separate from the people is automatically lacks any entitlement to make decisions on how to help the people.
